Glacier School Pakistan

Glacier literacy, disaster preparedness, and Indigenous knowledge.

Pakistan holds more than 7,000 glaciers — more than any country outside the polar regions — supplying freshwater to 215 million people. Yet, government school curricula contain no glacier-specific content, and traditional ecological knowledge is vanishing. The Glacier School is a structured learning programme delivering climate and glacier literacy through existing schools, community councils, and field settings across GB and Chitral.

Who it reaches

Primary school children (Grades 1-6): story-based learning and nature walks
Secondary students (Grades 7-12): glacier science, GLOF preparedness, hazard mapping
Out-of-school youth (ages 15-25): community sessions and youth ambassador camps
District administration and rescue personnel: GBDMA, DDMA capacity workshops

Four delivery formats

Primary School Curriculum Integration
Secondary School Module (6-8 weeks compatible with Single National Curriculum)
Residential Field Camp (5-7 days near glacier sites, held annually)
Community Learning Sessions (monthly sessions facilitated by youth ambassadors)
